The Bundesleistungszentrum Kienbaum e.V. (BLZ) serves German athletes to prepare for national and international seasonal highlights, such as the Olympic Games and European or World Championships. In order to provide athletes with optimal training conditions at all times, the sports facilities and buildings in Kienbaum have been gradually renovated and new facilities constructed over the past 25 years. In 2015, for example, a new artistic gymnastics hall was built, which is used especially for the training of the national squad.
In order to meet the high demands on training methods, a system for video feedback was also installed in the men's artistic gymnastics hall, which supports the users of the hall in their everyday training, provides them with feedback in the form of videos, as well as bringing along various additional functions.
The system consists of 18 cameras, 10 of which can record simultaneously - at a frame rate of 100 frames per second (fps). This generates a large amount of data, which commercially available technology was unable to cope with. For this reason, industrial cameras with a particularly high resolution were used in combination with an encoder specially developed by ccc to handle the huge amounts of data.
The encoder compresses the raw video data from the cameras, so that even at a frame rate of 100 fps an HD resolution of 720p is possible. In a gigabit network, even up to 30 video streams can be recorded simultaneously. In addition, the system has been optimized for touch control via tablets.
